Rocky White: Founder of Airborne Flag & Flagpole, LLC

Rocky White is the founder of Airborne Flag & Flagpole, LLC, a company built on a foundation of hard work, family values, and a lifetime of hands-on experience. Growing up in San Antonio, Rocky spent his youth helping his father, Freeman White, install clothesline poles. Freeman, a Korean War Purple Heart recipient, taught Rocky not only the technical skills of using tools like drills, saws, cutting torches, and welding equipment but also the value of diligence and precision.

As a teenager, Rocky balanced school, sports, and work. When he wasn’t practicing football, track, or baseball, he spent his summers fabricating clothesline poles, preparing them for sale and installation in San Antonio. This early exposure to hands-on work laid the groundwork for his future, as installing clothesline poles involved many of the same principles as flagpole installation: digging holes, mixing concrete, and ensuring a solid foundation.

After high school, Rocky was offered a football scholarship, which he pursued for two years before deciding college was not his path. Ready to take on new challenges, he entered the oil and gas industry, where he honed his problem-solving skills and resilience:

  • 1976–1977: Gained his first oil field experience working on offshore drilling rigs.
  • 1977–1982: Worked for the Texas Railroad Commission in the Oil & Gas Division, serving the San Antonio region.
  • 1982–1987: Joined Shell Oil Company’s Land Rig, the only one of its kind in the world, designed to train drilling supervisors for global operations. After five years of service, the rig was shut down, and Rocky was laid off.

These roles taught Rocky to persevere through strenuous conditions and adapt to long hours in extreme weather, lessons that would serve him well in his entrepreneurial journey.

When Rocky transitioned into the flagpole industry, the skills and experiences from his youth and oil field career came full circle. With the help of his children, Dustin and Crystal, who occasionally joined him on installations, and his father, who assisted with foundational tasks, Rocky built a company rooted in family, faith, and craftsmanship.

Today, Airborne Flag & Flagpole, LLC stands as a testament to Rocky’s dedication and the values instilled in him throughout his life. Guided by faith and a relentless commitment to quality, Rocky has created a business that honors his past while paving the way for future success.
